Fun Stuff!

evermore book tag //

If you’re a lifelong Swiftie like me, I’m sure you’ve spent the past few days obsessively listening to her latest album drop, evermore.

I love book tags about things that I love (see my folklore book tag answers as an example), so I was incredibly excited to be tagged by Ahaana at Windows to Worlds on her original evermore book tag! Thank you so much to Ahaana ♥♥

Alright, listen. I would die for Prince Henry. He is my sweet little royal cinnamon role who deserves the world and I would die to give it to him, and I suspect Alex Claremont-Diaz would too.

If you haven’t read this gorgeous book yet, please do, like, right now. This book makes me SO happy and I think Prince Henry is the epitome of soft-boy that I will strive to find for the rest of my life (thanks, Casey!).

Okay, no spoilers, but this book broke me AND broke relationships.

Anyone who has heard of these books (so, anyone not living under a rock), knows that R.F. Kuang quite actually wiped the floor with our hearts with this trilogy, so it’s not surprise that there are some relationships that don’t survive all three books. There’s one specifically that had me curled up on my floor sobbing (if ya know, ya know), but this final book is pretty much a mess of feelings and heartache.

This series is one that I love with all of my heart. The slow-burn romance, the mysterious murder plotlines, the kickass female heroine, the spooky settings, I adore it all.

This book came out of nowhere especially and latched so hard onto my heart that even just thinking about it has me yearning for a reread.

This one isn’t a girl reconnecting with her hometown, but with her father, which I think counts.

As you’ve probably heard (if not read it!), Beach Read is a romance with a bit of a heartbreaking plot  – the main character January has moved into her late fathers beach house (that he shared with his mistress) while between jobs. She struggles with his legacy and reconciling the man she grew up with to the one who cheated on her mom, but eventually comes to a few conclusions that leave you crying through your tears.

In all honesty, this wasn’t my favorite installment in the Shadowhunter world (I found it a bit boring, but that’s a discussion for another post!). However, the suffering between James and Cordelia KILLED ME.

I’m actually going to be so upset if this drags out through Chain of Iron because I just can’t do the trope that Cassie pulled with them (again, no spoilers, but let’s just say one party is being ~influenced~ by outside factors).

Regardless, I ship it and I want them together for real for real, so fingers crossed.

There’s not actually a ton of murder in this, but it’s the closest to a book about murder that I’m gonna get.

My queen Juliette Cai can put down a man in seconds, and I’m here for it. One of my favorite tropes is the badass heroine who isn’t afraid to do what has to be done and Juliette is definitely that. I love her. Read this book.

I TRIED. I tried so hard to reread this, and I just cannot make it through. I get so freaking bored and end up putting it down.

This breaks my heart because I adored this book as a kid, and I haven’t read any of the other Riordan series (I want to SO bad) but feel it a necessity to reread PJO first. Do the later books get better? I can’t remember? Is this one just dragging because Percy is literally 12? *sobs*.

I genuinely cannot think of a better friends-to-lovers that I’ve read in the past few years. If you’re a sucker for this trope, you’d love this book.

CeCe and Paul have been neighbors and best friends for forever, but it’s not until CeCe decided to go to a Christian summer camp (and Paul tags along) that they really start to connect as more than friends.

This book is one of my favorites of 2020 and if you’re looking to cry laughing (mixed with a little swooning), please give it a try.

(Other than Capturing the Devil) this is the only book that made me cry this year. Even thinking the words “light it up” make me tear up.

I know it’s ~basic~, but SJM really does write such heart-wrenching relationships. The friendship between Bryce and Danika helped carry this book, and that ending had me bawling at 3 AM.

American Royals really surprised me. I don’t know if I’d say its a favorite, but I did enjoy it a good amount and read Majesty soon after it’s release.

I don’t think this is for everyone. It’s messy and intricate and not everything wraps up in nice, little bows. Some of the characters had me banging my head against the wall and the romances were a hot mess (wow, typing this is making me think that maybe I hated this book?), but it’s a fun, fast-paced story with a lot of character growth and fun alternate-universe plotlines!

It’s not a book tag until Erin somehow finds a way to shove The Darkest Powers trilogy into it!!

I truly just don’t read a lot of crime/bad guy stories, so this one’s a bit of a cheat. The characters of TDP aren’t criminals, but they’re being pursued by bad guys and thus are on the run and framed as criminals. I loved that these characters got to explore the world in a bigger spectrum than just the initial setting (a home for “troubled” children , which was interesting if not very limiting).

Junie B. Jones made up my childhood. Period.

I will never forget that iconic phrase “Hi! My name is Junie B. Jones. The B stands for Beatrice, except I don’t like Beatrice. I just like B and that’s all.”

(Funny sidenote: the cover of “Junie B. Jones Has a Monster Under Her Bed” scared the actual crap out of me and I used to make my parents take it with them to bed so the monster wouldn’t come into my room and get me. Is this why I have ~anxiety~?)

Michelle Obama is the GOAT and I will take no other opinions.

I didn’t know much about her other than the fact that she’s the former First Lady and that she ran a campaign to take junk food out of schools, which did not go over well with us rowdy 15-year-olds. This book gave me so much more insight into her strength, courage, and bravery and she’s now one of my most iconic role models. In Becoming, she chronicles her life growing up on the South Side of Chicago (my Illinois gal!) and her journey through the Ivies and into the White House. She’s truly an inspiration.

Thank god for JLA and her wild writing habits, because in the grand scope of publishing, this wait is not a bad one.

The ending of Kingdom of Flesh and Fire was the BIGGEST cliffhanger, so I’m sure you can understand my need for this one.

Again, bear with me for this one.

I think Throne of Glass had a HUGE legacy to wrap up in this final installment, but I thought SJM did a great job of tying all of it together. There were so many characters to follow in this one that at parts it got a little boring for me, but in the end I loved this final book and it’ll always be a comfort read when I’m in a slump or just need an old friend.

And that’s that! Thank you so much again to Ahaana for tagging me, I had so much fun answering these questions and pressuring all of you to read my faves!

If you’d like to do this tag, for sure give it a go, and make sure you loop back to Ahaana’s for the prompts.

Hope you all are having a cozy season so far (and playing evermore on loop, just like me!)
