2021 Anticipated Releases // Run, Bank Account, Run.

I never thought I’d be so happy to type the number “2021”, but oh, I am.

I’m so happy to be out of the hell-year that was 2020, and have big hopes for my reading this year! Despite being off to a…questionable start. Still, reading all of your “most anticipated” and “2021 releases” lists, I’ve been adding books to my TBR left and right!

I have a whole shelf on Goodreads dedicated to 2021 releases, but I’m sure I’m missing a ton. Though in all honesty, a lot of the fun about blogging is getting to find unexpected releases via blog hopping, so I’m excited to see what I’ll find from you all!

So, here we go. Click the covers if you’re interested in adding these titles on Goodreads!

Concrete Roses by Angie Thomas, 1/12/21.

I have this one coming to me in the mail right now, actually! Angie Thomas is an autobuy author, and while I know this story won’t pull any punches, I still think it’s an important one that I look forward to reading once I get it!

What’s Not to Love by Emily Wibberley and Austin Sigemund-Broka, 4/20/21.

This is my last chance for this author duo. I read If I’m Being Honest and loved it, but definitely didn’t like Always Never Yours, their previous book. Since I liked If I’m Being Honest so much, I’m willing to give this one a try and see if they can be redeemed! Here’s hoping.

Where the Rhythm Takes You by Sarah Dass, 5/11/21.

This cover alone would make me pick this one up, but luckily the plot sounds great as well. It’s got DJs, a friends-to-strangers-to-lovers plotline, and a seaside resort in Tobago? Sign me up, please!

Made in Korea by Sarah Suk, 5/18/21.

This has a 4.9 average rating on Goodreads. Let that sink in for a minute. This one is about two rival business owners who are competing but also falling in love at the same time. Perfection, honestly. And I need that cover on my shelves ASAP.

Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales, 3/9/21.

I really enjoyed Sophie’s debut novel, Only Mostly Devastated, so I’m excited to give this one a shot. Also, the bisexual rep? We love to see it! I’ve also always been intrigued by the whole “misc. advice giver in a high school” trope, so I’m ready to get my hands on this one!

Counting Down with You by Tashie Bhuiyan, 5/4/21.

Fake dating? School bad boy? A MC who loves books? This is my perfect book. I’ve been following Tashie for awhile now and have fallen in love with her as a person, so I have utter faith that her writing is going to be just as amazing. Can’t wait.

The Heart Principle by Helen Hoang, 8/17/21.

Helen Hoang is an autobuy author for me after reading her first two books. I can’t wait for Quan’s story!! I love how Helen incorporates real disorders into her books, and this one features a love interest with OCD, which I’m eager to read about since I haven’t read many books with OCD rep!

Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne, 4/13/21.

If you know anything about Sally Thorne, you probably know that her first book was hailed as a masterpiece, while her second book was a bit of a flop (at least in my humble opinion). However, I am not deterred! This one looks super cute, I love how it incorporates a retirement home into the plot. Can anyone say meddling old ladies? We stan.

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry, 5/11/21.

This is the year of adorable covers, I guess! This story is a bestfriends-to-strangers-to-lovers story, which automatically puts it into my shopping cart. Isn’t it crazy how that happens?

Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert, 3/9/21.

The Brown sisters are superior to any sister trio I’ve ever read, period. Talia writes such awesome heroines and the most swoon-worthy love interests, and I have a very good feeling that Eve will be no different. I’ve loved her since Chloe’s debut, and will continue to love her until I die. Enough said.

The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon, 1/26/21.

I actually just read Today Tonight Tomorrow and it made my faves of 2021, so I’m really excited for Rachel’s next book. I’ve also heard that the love interest of this is actually the best, and that’s really all I need to hear before I add it to my TBR.

Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle, 4/6/21.

You Deserve Each Other had me laughing so hard I actually cried. Ever since, I’ve known that I’ll forever be trash for Sarah Hogle, and therefore I’m WAY too excited for her sophomore novel, Twice Shy. I’m a bit nervous because I’ve never loved the “girl inherits a house and has to have a big strong man help her fix it up” trope, but I have faith in Queen Sarah.

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas, 2/16/21.

Listen, yes, I am trash for SJM. I’ve said it before, and I’ll continue to say it because it’s an undeniable fact of my existence, for better or for worse. I kind of hate Nesta, but I also kind of love her, so I’m beyond ready for this. Also I’ll do anything to get back to the Night Court, so yeah.

Black Buck by Mateo Askaripor, 1/5/21.

This one has actually already been released, but I just found out about it a few days ago while blog hopping! A young Black salesman who dedicates his success to helping young people of color break into the sales industry? *Chefs kiss* sign me up!

Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto, 3/27/21.

I think this book is going to cute my depression, anxiety AND stress all at the same time. It’s part thriller, part romcom, part family drama. If a group of meddling aunties trying to save their neice from murder chargers while she simultaneously falls back in love with her childhood sweatheart doesn’t entice you, then I truly don’t know what will.

Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America, 1619-2019 by Ibram X. Kendi and Keisha N. Blain, 2/2/21.

This anthology chronicles centuries of African American experiences through contributed stories by Black authors, academics, historians, and more. I think reading this anthology would be a great way for me to learn more about Black history, as well as hear from some wonderful and powerful authors in the community!

How to Avoid a Climate Disaster by Bill Gates, 2/16/21.

I’m hesitant to give any more money to this guy, but I do trust that he’s got good intentions and I would like to hear what he has to say on climate change and our impending doom! I know a bit about climate change and the global crisis from my time abroad in Scandinavia, but there’s always more to learn.

A Black Women’s History of the United States by Daina Ramey Berry and Kali Nicole Gross, 2/4/21.

I think everyone can agree that traditional “American” history (at least the kind that’s taught in our schools) is incredibly one-dimensional and selective, and thus reading books such as this one, that showcases the lives of Black women throughout our history, is important. I also love how this showcases trans Black women, queer Black women and disabled Black women! We love to see it and I will be purchasing immediately!

So, there we have it! Obviously there are a ton more 2021 releases that I’m excited for, but for times sake, I’m going to only include those above. I’m actually a little surprised because I’ve been feeling like 2021 was going to be a slow year for releases (not too many that I’ve seen that I just have to have), but as I’ve been blog hopping and doing my own research, I’ve realized just how many amazing books are releasing this year!

Which is truly wonderful. After the year we’ve had in 2020, give us all the good books, please!

What releases are you most excited for? Anything I have to add to my list ASAP?

There are WAY too many amazing releases for 2021. I didn’t even start researching until earlier in the month and I already have more than 30 on my list 😭 I’m especially excited for Concrete Rose!

  • Dini @ dinipandareads

LOL at this post’s title because yeah, my bank is going to ha-a-ate me (again) this year 😂 I think that’s the only thing that makes being in this community difficult – the FOMO on amazing books and the compulsive need to add them all to the TBR! I have quite a few of these on my TBR already (give me all that romance pls!) but I think I’m going to be adding one or two more from your list now. I also love how vibrant so many of these covers are 😍 I hope you enjoy all of these, Erin (and that your 2021 reading picks up lol)!

There is a VERY high possibility that my bank account is too lazy to run, which is ridiculous because she’s not carrying much weight rn so girl should be flying (😂😂)! I hope you adore Concrete Rose AND ACOSF, patiently waiting for Feb for it to release!! ♥♥

  • Ruby Rae Reads

Okay, but the tagline of this post is the most relatable thing ever because they are SO MANY AMAZING BOOKS out omg and I have absolutely no idea how to read them all.

So many of these are also on my list, but ah especially excited about Concrete Rose, COUNTING DOWN WITH YOU !!!!!, Emily Henry’s new book, The Ex Talk, Eve Brown and just okay TOO MANY. I’ve somehow also been blessed with a ton of eARCS and okay I should just leave right now and go and get reading lmao
