Top Ten Tuesday: Smilin’ Through the Pain

Heeeelloooo, me again!

Today is Tuesday, which means I get to take a pause on brainstorming original content and just roll with the trends. This particular bandwagon that I’m hopping on is Top 10 Tuesday!

The prompt for this week’s Top 10 (hosted over on That Artsy Reader Girl) is Top 10 books that make you smile. There truly is nothing better than a genuine reaction to a book that you’re reading, be it a smile, a laugh, even a good cry! I love it when I have an out-loud reaction to what I’m reading – I think that’s the mark of a good book!

So, without further rambling from mua, here are the Top 10 books that have drawn smiles (or, yes, even hysterical laughter) from old, grumpy, stoic me.

10. You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

This one was SO cute! I loved every second of it. The characters were hilarious, and watching them fight and eventually come back to each other was so much fun. I was smiling throughout most of it! Def recommend.

9. Becoming by Michelle Obama

My queen, my inspiration, my guru Michelle Obama! Guys. This book was amazing. Michelle Obama is such a graceful, classy, inspiring woman who everyone should look up to. Her memoir details her childhood in the South Side of Chicago all the way to her time in the White House and beyond. I am so awestruck by this woman and can only hope to be half the human being she is. Read this!!

8. Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

I was so daunted picking this up last year, but I can’t believe I almost didn’t! It’s adorable, and I was grinning at every interaction between Alex and Henry. The alternate universe was also just really neat, and I can’t wait to read whatever Casey McQuiston comes up with next!

7. If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

If I’m being honest, I don’t remember 100% of this book *haha, get my pun?*. BUT, I remember smiling through most of it! The growth of our main character from this unlikable mean girl to a more caring and mature individual and her relationship with our underdog love interest was really fun to read, and I’m hoping to reread this and fall in love all over again soon!

6. Fever Pitch by Heidi Cullinan

This one I read for the first time a few years ago after stumbling upon it on my Kindle, and now it’s an all-time favorite! This is the second book in the Love Lessons series, and follows a group of friends as they navigate college and the growing relationships with one another. This one is between two guys, Aaron and Giles, and involves enemies-to-lovers, pining, and MUSIC! This is adorable and I will reread it endlessly.

5. Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

This is another one that I don’t remember too much of, but I do remember actively smiling throughout. This one genuinely made me laugh out loud almost every chapter, and I loved that feeling. One again, one I need to reread asap!

4. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

This is one that I’ll just always come back to. As an adult, I can realize a lot of problems with the world and the writing (or at least more than I noticed when I was 15 years old!) but I will always love the Shadowhunter universe! I smile just knowing that Cassie Clare is still releasing books, honestly.

3. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

The quintessential romance book! No, really. This is probably the first physical new adult romance that I ever read, and it launched a weird obsession with animated covers and floppy paperbacks! I’ve only reread this once, and definitely need to again to renew my love for it, because I grin throughout.

2. Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

I know, I know! These next two will be tragically predictable. But I just love this series, and I love Celaena. She was the first kickass heroine main character I ever read, and I fell in love with her story and her ruthless determination. Even though she’s totally fictional, she will always be an inspiration to keep moving forward, no matter what challenges you face! Every time she kicks ass despite the crazy obstacles, I smile.

1. Harry Potter Series by *redacted*

*Le sigh*. I hate that this one goes to the top because of recent events, but I just can’t deny that Harry Potter will always bring a smile to my face. I love this world with all my heart, and I can’t imagine ever not grinning as I read about the wonders of Hogwarts.

And there it is folks!! The top ten books that make me smile. Let me know if any of these match your top ten, or if you think there’s any that I should give a try!

Thanks for reading, and happy Tuesday!! (:
