Wrap Up

Seasonal Reflection // Top Books of Summer 20′!

Hi, everyone! Happy (almost) Friday. Hope you’re all doing well on this nice October day (if it’s nice where you live, of course, and if not, then amend it to *cozy fall day* instead).

So after starting this blog a few months back, I realized that it’d be nice for me to, like, actually keep track of all the books I read. I know Goodreads is supposed to do that, but I find it really finnicky and hard to use when it comes to looking back on what books I read.

Therefore, I started a Google Sheet where I put the books I’ve read, the books I’ve hauled, and the books I hope to one day buy! This has been nice to look back on and definitely helps me get a better feel for how much I’m reading.

I also thought it’d be fun to do a ~seasonal wrap up~ every few months to really dig deep into my favorites. I’ve always been a super casual reader and know which books I hold near and dear to my heart, but I think these posts will be fun to look back on and be like “oh yeah, I remember really liking that book!”

So, without further preamble, here are the top 5 books that I read this summer!

American Royals: The saga of me and this book goes like this: I bought it in Copenhagen, left it in Copenhagen because my luggage was too heavy, put it off for a year, checked it out from the library in hopes of actually reading it, and then finally picked it up after my library said “bitch give it back, someone else wants it”. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this, and while I don’t think the duology is going to go down in the coveted best-of-all-time Goodreads folder, I did fly through it.

Felix Ever After: This book broke my heart and then glued all the pieces back together again. It was so heart-wrenching and honest – Felix’s story is so painful yet so inspiring to read about. I fell in love with both him and Ezra (and this gorgeous cover!) and don’t regret a second of it. Also, the NYC setting was something that I actually don’t read much of, and I think that added to my enjoyment of this book as well!

From Blood & Ash: Is definitely a new favorite series of all time. I won’t go into too much depth with this one because I feel like I’m constantly talking about it, but I absolutely adore this series and flew through both this book and the sequel. All I can say is, thank god for JLA’s ability to turn out books like a fiend because the third book comes out in April of 2021, and I cannot wait.

The Kiss Quotient: Beautiful, stunning, show-stopping, gorgeous, incredible!! I read this for the *coughs* Reading Rush after finding both this and the sequel at Half Price Books for $14.00, and uhh…..give me more?? This story was so sweet and charming and the sequel was also just as good. Also, I just love the color scheme of the covers and can’t wait until I have all three on my shelves come next August.

Serpent & Dove: This was one of those books that I curled up in bed and just devoured. I love a snarky, dark heroine and Lou fit the bill perfectly. I loved the will-they/won’t-they of the main characters and am so glad I gave this one a shot. Disregarding the disappointment of a sequel, I’m excited to see where this world takes us.

Well, my dearies, there lie the Top 5 books of Summer 2020. Obviously, this summer was a disaster due to COVID and in my opinion, not the best ever reading months for me.

Luckily, I’ve already found so many new favorites this fall and I think my Fall 2020 wrapup will be a bit more lively. But until then, may your mugs be filled with pumpkin spice drinks and your fires keep you extra warm this season!

What was your favorite book of Summer 20? Did you read any of the same as me?

Serpent and Dove was so much fun. Not something I typically like, but I had a blast reading it. I just bought From Blood and Ash so I’m hoping I like it as much as you do (I think I will)!

Felix Ever After was amazing! <3 I also absolutely LOVED Boy Queen by George Lester, Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, and Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson, though the last 2 there were September 15th releases so does that count as summer?

Totally counts! I feel like anything between April and September can be counted as summer! All of those sound amazing and I think all of those are on my TBR, so many books, not enough time! 😭 ♥

Omg, I love the idea of a seasonal wrap-up. Honestly so many random blog post ideas lately and I just… don’t have a lot of headspace to focus on them welp.

Hello, queen for setting up a whole spreadsheet. I,,, nope too lazy. Though I have been trying to organise myself on Notion quite a bit because my non-existent system has not been working very well. Anyways, seems like you read SO MANY great books, all of which I cannot wait to read. American Royals sounds like such a fun time and Imma spend a couple of days probs marathoning that duology (??) hehe. And you’ve made me super keen on The Kiss Quotient because tbh a bit nervous to read it.

    Love you!!!!!

PLEASE give us a Notion tour once you get it organized!!! I love seeing people’s bookish Notions because I cannot figure out that app for the life of me ugh! Kiss Quotient was super cute def give it a try, and I can’t wait to see what you think of American Royals!! I feel like it’s hit or miss and I hope you end up liking both!! ♥♥

I absolutely adored Felix Ever After and The Kiss Quotient, so I’m glad to see them on your list. 😀 I read TKQ shortly after its publication and I was heartbroken over Hoang not having any more published novels. I need more by her even after The Bride Test, and I’m SAD we have to wait so long for the third book. 🙁 Great post, Rin! 🙂
