Seasonal Reflection // Top Books of Fall 20′

Hi there, everyone!

I hope everybody is having a great November thus far, and getting ready to spend some time relaxing over these upcoming holidays.

I’m back with my Fall 20′ Wrap Up, a feature that I’m hoping will provide a fun look back at what I read when. This fall was a bit slow, but since I’m still ahead of my Goodreads goal of 75 books this year, I’m counting it as a good season.

I had some great reads, some subpar reads, and some rough reads this fall, but here are the top five books that I read.

I know you’re all probably SO sick of hearing me talk about the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, and I’m deeply sorry. But really, I’m not. I LOVED this series with all my heart and have written multiple posts about my adoration of it. I loved the storyline, the spooky mystery, the characters, and THOMAS CRESSWELL. I am so thankful that this Halloween finally bullied me into reading this series, and I encourage anyone who has been living under a rock (yes, that same one that I JUST emerged from) to pick it up.

I vividly remember the day that Sam from Thoughts on Tomes introduced me to The Poppy War. She said it was a grimdark fantasy, which at the time I had no idea existed. I’m not one for reading super dark books so initially decided against reading this one. Then, ya’ll RAVED about this trilogy, and I was like okay, what the hell (classic case of Book Blogs Made Me Do It!). This book was heartbreakingly good, and I am so thankful I read it this fall. I have a copy of TBG but am putting it off until after Thanksgiving so that my soul is not CRUSHED as I eat my pumpkin pie.

Yet another book that should have been read this summer, but what can ya do. People have been really hit-or-miss with Beach Read, though I for sure loved it. The story is a bit sad just because of the character’s backstory and struggle to accept things that happened in their pasts, but the love story is really sweet, and I cracked up at a lot of Gus and January’s antics.

Saw Spoiler Alert at Barnes & Noble and impulse purchased. No regrets. Adorable story, adorable characters, adorable cover! Since both characters are involved in a fandom, there’s sort of a story within a story, and that was super neat. Heck, I can’t even come up with a solid plot for one book, yet Olivia Dade puts a full freaking television show in here! Crazy talent. There’s also some awesome discussions about being fat and finding safe space within an online community in here – we love the representation! This was super cute and I think everyone should give it a try.

Truthfully, I’m not sure why I didn’t include Have a Little Faith in Me in my Summer 20′ wrap up, as it was one of my favorites of the season. But since it’s also one of my favorites of the year, I’m putting it in here. I have a full review on this story, but it was absolutely hilarious. Seriously, I cried laughing. My parents thought I was having a breakdown. The story focuses a lot on religion, which initially turned me off it because I don’t identify heavily with any religious affiliation, but boy was this worth the read. Check out my review if you want to hear my full thoughts!

And that’s that on that! I’m excited to read some cozy stories this winter, and have a BIG TBR to tackle this upcoming season. As long as I don’t get too caught up in the television coming out *cough, Shameless and The Expanse, cough*, I should be in for a promising winter!

What have you guys read these past few months? Any new favorites? Any new worst-of-all-times?

Thanks, friends! Happy winter reading!

I’m currently reading Stalking Jack the Ripper and so far I am loving it!! I’m super excited to see where the rest of the story goes. Sounds like you have had a fabulous reading season!

Fab list! TPW was one of my favourite reads this year. Definitely on the much darker side of fantasy than I normally read but wow, I learned so much. It’s got such historical depth and the characters and writing *chefs kiss* that it was so hard to write the review 😂 I don’t know why I haven’t picked up Beach Read yet since it was one of my most anticipated releases but I’ve heard really positive things about it. Same for Spoiler Alert which looks fab 😍

Right like the way that R.F. Kuang incorporated the historical aspect into the story is absolutely stunning and I learned SO much from it!! Both were super cute and super quick reads if you’re ever feeling ~slumpy~, definitely ones to pick up!! (:

I’ve heard sooo much about Stalking Jack the Ripper haha. I’m definitely going to check it out sometime soon because it seems so good!! And yeah it’s probably a good idea to put off TBG, it was so so good (possibly the best book I’ve read this year!!) but it totally just put me in a massive reading slump bc I cannot Stop Thinking About It. Really exciting that you enjoyed these books so much!! My fall reading highlight is most likely TBG haha but Addie LaRue is also up there!!!
