2022 Fall & Winter Anticipated Releases!

Every time I log onto the internet, I add yet another book to my internal upcoming TBR.

It’s dangerous for many reasons, the most important of which is that I definitely will not remember which books I put on my list, and thus, show up at Barnes & Noble and go through the internal turmoil of “do I buy 6 books?” Yeah, you know what I’m talking about.

Thus, I’m attempting to organize my release radar through…this post! Behold, my most anticipated books for the remainder of 2022:

The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell

Release Date: September 6th

Hamnet intrigued me. Did I read it? ….No. Do I still want to read this? Absolutely! 1550s Italy just sounds so incredibly magical (and probably also incredibly violent), and I think I’ll really enjoy diving into this setting with its’ elegance and opulence.

It also sounds like its’ female-dominated and follows a woman’s’ experience as she navigates the role she’s been thrust into, and I’m always a sucker for those types of stories.

Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn

Release Date: September 6th

I found out about this book last week, and it might quite possibly be in my top 3 releases for this fall. Oh my goodness! That COVER! That PLOT!! (4 former assassins in their 60s who have to outsmart a kill-order on them).

This just overall sounds like so much fun and I will be purchasing and reading immediately upon its’ release.

Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match by Sally Thorne

Release Date: September 6th

Yes, I’m aware that every book of Sally Thorne’s except The Hating Game has been a flop. Yes, I still want to read this!

It could be ridiculously dumb. In fact, I guarantee it will be. But, it sounds fun, and I’m going into it with the bar quite truly on the ground, so how much worse could it get?

*Sally, if you’re reading this, that is not a challenge.*

Foul Lady Fortune by Chloe Gong

Release Date: September 27th

*Sigh*

My goodness, Chloe, how much I wish you weren’t involved in the weird, somewhat mind-bending Lightlark scandal, and *sigh* how much I wish I had not seen that TikTok of you strutting through B&N with Alex Aster and whoever wrote Dustin Thao. My ick level is off the charts.

And yet, I am totally going to read this. Chloe writes just the most lyrical prose and I’m fully invested in the fantasy world she’s established through These Violent Delights. This will be on my doorstep the day its’ released, and I will, inevitably, adore it.

Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan

Release Date: October 4th

I don’t think I’ve ever read a Jodi Picoult novel. But, THIS COVER! I have to have it.

I’m super intrigued by the premise of this one, but am also a bit nervous that it’ll be a bit too dark for my reading tastes. However, I have faith that Jodi Picoult won’t mess me up too badly, and that those promised themes of love, secrets, and bravery will shine through amongst the darker elements. We shall see!

Just Like Magic by Sarah Hogle

Release Date: October 4th

I LOVE SARAH HOGLE.

But I’m nervous for this book.

The Holiday Spirit come to life in the form of a man named Hall? Um….

Regardless, you bet I’ll be reading this in one evening. Sarah Hogle makes me laugh like no other and I bet this one will sweep me off my feet exactly like You Deserve Each Other and Twice Shy did. I hope. I pray.

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

Release Date: October 18th

I’m hesitantly adding this to my TBR because while it looks incredibly interesting, it also looks incredibly heavy.

Which is good. Sitting in discomfort while reading stories about people who are different from you is an important part of growth. I also think this exploration of institutional poverty from more of a narrative POV would help me in connecting with and finding empathy for these characters.

Honestly, the more I type, the more excited I am for this one! Will report back.

The Cloisters by Katy Hays

Publication Date: November 1st

This one is pitched as “The Secret History meets Ninth House”. I haven’t read The Secret History and I DNF-ed Ninth House, so…

Anyways, I think the spooky museum setting and dark tarot card plot sound super intriguing, if not totally out of my wheelhouse. But hey, if I’ve learned anything this year, it’s always the most unexpected books that I love the best!

A Very Merry Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

Publication Date: November 1st

These books are just like sugary sweet candy. They’re easy to read, the characters are likable, and they’re just long enough that I’m left wanting a tiny bit more.

This is an auto-buy and thus I haven’t read the synopsis and have no idea what to expect from it, other than that it looks like a Christmas romance. OH, and of course, a bookclub full of bros. What more could you ask for in a seasonal romance read?

The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama

Publication Date: November 15th

Becoming may quite possibly be my favorite memoir of all time (granted, I’ve read, like, 10). To me, Michelle Obama is the epitome of poise, grace, and civility, and I will lap up any and all of her wisdom!

This book specifically holds advice for overcoming in times of challenge and how we can move forward when seemingly stuck in a never-ending cycle of disagreement and hatred, something incredibly relevant in America at the moment. I think this woman is a true gem and I cannot wait to read – or listen – to this!

(I will say, the Becoming cover was better!)

I once heard someone describe December as the armpit of publishing and honestly I couldn’t agree more. There are simply no books standing out to me that are set to publish this December!

I’m sure this will change as we move closer and I inevitably realize that my roaring appetite for spending money I don’t have on books can’t be tamed, but for now, it’s free game, baby!

What books are you looking forward to this fall & winter? Any December recommendations for me?
